How Friday Brain Building Club works

We’ve created a sequence that fits in to your family life without the friction of deadlines, homework, apps or screen-time battles.

Friday, 7am.

An email arrives with this week’s brain-building sheet. Sequenced - not random - so each week builds on the last.

Print it.
Leave it out.

Each sheet is packed with engaging numeracy, literacy and problem-solving challenges - laid out so a child can pick where to start.

Word of the week

Contextualised with a sentence-level definition, synonym and antonym. May appear two weeks later in the crossword or polygon.

Crossword

Knowledge-building clues with extra stretch for older kids. Boosts their vocabulary, spelling and word-level problem solving.

Logic puzzle

Verbal reasoning activities help kids understand, interpret, and think critically about language.

Numeracy skills

Build strong logical thinking, maths fluency, focus, and resilience without doing repetitive drills.

Curious fact

Designed to spark dinner-table conversation and build knowledge over time.

Stretch & challenge

Work out word search clues from synonyms, antonyms or other hints - keeping them thinking hard!

Our Mission

Weekly fuel for curious thinkers

Fosters curiosity and a love of learning

Transform education into an anticipated weekend ritual, filled with engaging activites.

Develops problem-solving skills

A wide variety of activities and puzzles that allow children to think independently, deduce, and solve.

Durable and flexible knowledge

Logic that repeats on future sheets in new ways strengthens memory over time.

Promotes literacy and numeracy skills

A screen-free weekend alternative to practice handwriting, expand their vocabulary, and process arithmetic.

Builds resilience

Constructive frustration is a natural step in learning. The intentional design encourages children to walk away from a tricky puzzle and return with fresh eyes.

Builds educational independence

Allows learners to work at their own pace, pick their own starting point, and take charge of their learning.

Connects families

The printed page acts as a tangible, table-top anchor that naturally invites low-stress family collaboration and casual weekend conversations over a shared goal.

Designed by teachers, loved by kids

Knowledge

Created and curated by Joey, Cambridge alumna with an MA in Education.

Experience

Backed by over 15 years of experience in the UK education sector.

Evidence-informed

Developed with a deep understanding of the evidence around how children think, learn and remember.

Loved by parents

It’s such a simple idea, but really effective. My daughter feels proud when she completes each sheet, and I’ve noticed she’s started approaching schoolwork with a lot more confidence.

Kelly (mum of 2)

As a parent, I appreciate that I’m not expected to teach it. I can sit with my child and encourage them, but the sheets are clear enough that they can work independently. It’s really helped build resilience.

Liz (mum of 2)

The mix of maths, English, and logic is brilliant. It’s not repetitive like other resources we’ve used. You can actually see the way it’s building their thinking skills week by week.

Jess (mum of 2)

I love that it’s completely screen-free. It’s become part of our Friday routine—my daughter sits down with it after school and really gets absorbed. It’s helped her slow down and think things through rather than rushing for answers.

Anna (mum of 2)

We’ve tried lots of worksheets over the years, but this is the first thing my son and daughter actually looks forward to. It feels more like brain training and problem-solving than regular homework, and I’ve noticed they're both much more confident tackling tricky problems on his own.”

Alice (mum of twins)

It’s made learning more connected. The mix of literacy and logic means he’s starting to see links between words and meaning, and he’ll point out patterns in spelling or word structure that he’s learned from the sheets.

Melissa (mum of 3)

I like how it builds logical thinking. My daughter now approaches puzzles by looking for patterns first instead of guessing. You can actually hear her thinking through problems more clearly.

Isobel (mum of 3)

The numeracy challenges are really well designed. They don’t just drill times tables—they make him think about how numbers relate to each other. He’s much more confident explaining how he got his answers.

Jenna (mum of 3)

We’ve noticed a real improvement in her literacy skills. She’s started using new vocabulary from the sheets in everyday conversation—last week she even used the ‘word of the week’ correctly in a sentence at dinner.

Emma (mum of 1)

My son used to struggle with word problems, but now he actually slows down and looks for patterns in the language. He’s started spotting clues in questions that he used to miss completely.

Sarah (mum of 3)

Brilliant activity sheets to keep kids entertained and challenged. I particularly like the word of the week section - my children aren't avid readers and this has helped enhance their vocabulary - as well as the polygon.

Sophie L (mum of 2)

We love the FBBC because it strikes the sweet spot between fun and intellectual challenge.

Sophie S (mum of 3)

Excellent

Loved by kids

I have learned how to check my answers and not get frustrated when I can't do it first time. Friday is my favourite day of the week now!

Benji (age 8)

It’s fun because everything links together. I notice patterns in words and numbers now, and I sometimes spot answers faster than I used to.”

Claudie (age 11)

The logic puzzles are my favourite. I try different ways to solve them instead of just giving up if it’s hard. I feel really proud when I get it right.”

Cara (age 10)

I like the number puzzles because they’re not just times tables—you have to think about how the numbers fit together like a game.”

Raffie (age 6)

I started using one of the new words from the sheet at school and even at dinner. My mum was surprised I knew what it meant and how to use it!”

Maxie (age 8)

I used to guess the answers, but now I look for clues in the question first. The puzzles make me think properly, and I like when I finally work it out myself.”

Freddie (age 8)

I really like the wordsearch where you have to work out the synonyms before finding the words - much more interesting than a normal wordsearch puzzle.

Lara (age 9)

I love the polygon; I really enjoyed seeing how words are formed from sequenes of letters.

Jack (age 11)

I really like the FBBC. I liked all the puzzles, especially the number towers.

Jasmine S (age 10)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Friday Brain Building Club?

Friday Brain Building Club is a weekly subscription that delivers a single, carefully designed activity sheet for children aged 7–11. Each sheet includes numeracy, literacy, and problem-solving challenges to help build thinking skills in an engaging, screen-free way.

How do the sheets progress week to week?

Each sheet is designed to build on previous learning.Key skills and knowledgeare revisited over time in different contexts, helping strengthen retention and understanding. By mixing numeracy, literacy, and problem-solving, children are encouraged to think flexibly and apply strategies rather than repeat the same patterns. As they progress, new learning is designed to connect to prior knowledge, making it easier to understand and retain. In this way, each sheet builds steadily on preceding sheets, creating a continuous learning journey.

What age group is it for?

There are two options: the Simple sheet is designed for children aged7–11 years, and the Stretch sheet is for 9-11 year olds. However, you can opt for either sheet irrespective of their age as we know all children come with varying levels of knowledge and prior attainment. Just let us know if you'd like to try both for a week or two before you choose.

What does my child receive each week?

Every Friday, your child receives:

  • One double-sided brain-building activity sheet
  • A mix of maths, literacy, problem-solving and logic puzzles
  • Activities designed to be completed by hand in pencil at any time
Is it screen free?

Yes. All activities are designed to be completed in pencilon the sheet itself, encouraging focus, handwriting, and independent thinking away from screens.

What skills does it develop?

The activities are designed to support

  • Knowledge acquisition
  • Numeracy, arithmetic and mental maths
  • Reading, literacy and language skills
  • Problem-solving and logic
  • Concentration, resilience and independent learning
How long does each activity sheet take to complete?

Most sheets take around20–45 minutes, depending on the child’s pace and engagement.

Is it aligned with the school curriculum?

Yes. The activities are designed to complementKey Stage 2 learning and contentwhile making learning more engaging and enjoyable through puzzles, challenges and connectedknowledge. How is it different from homework? There are zero homework feels!Unlike traditional homework, Friday Brain Building Club:

  • Is low-stakes with no deadline
  • Feels like puzzles and games rather than drills
  • Focuses on thinking skills, not repetition
  • Encourages curiosity and independent problem-solving
  • Is designed to be engaging, not stressful (for parents and kids)

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes. The subscription is flexible and can be cancelled at any time through your account settings, or emailing us.

How and when will I receive the activity sheet?

New activity sheets are deliveredweekly on Fridays at 7am via email.

Do I need to print the sheets?

Yes. The sheets are designed to be printed (black and white, or colour) and completed by hand in pencil to encourage reflection and corrections.

What if my child finds it too hard or too easy?

Each sheet includes a mix of challenge levels and scaffolding so children can build confidence while being stretched. You can support them using our 'Hints and Tips' section with guidance on how to prompt them without giving away the answer. You can also move them to the Simple sheet (age 7-9), or to the Stretch sheet (age 9-11) irrespective of their age as we know all children come with varying levels of knowledge and prior attainment. All that matters is that they're enjoying it! If they're not, stop and come back to it later with fresh eyes, maybe after some food and a run around!

Why is it called "brain building"?

Because each activity is designed to strengthen core skills—like logic, reasoning, problem-solving, literacy and numeracy—through fun, weekly practice.

Do I need to complete it with my child?

Parents don’t need to act as tutors or provide step-by-step help. The activities are designed so children can engage with them independently. That said, we do encouragecollaboration rather than instruction. Sitting alongside your child, talking through ideas, and asking simple guiding questions can make the experience more enjoyable and supportive without giving away answers. See our 'Hints and Tips' section for more advice.Over time, the aim is for children to buildindependence, resilience, and confidence in working through challenges on their own. So the best role for parents is to encourage, prompt thinking, and celebrate effort—rather than solve the problems for them.
